Dr. Zehra Merve Kaya

Assistant Professor

Graduated with a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Istanbul University. Subsequently, she completed her master's, doctoral, and post-doctoral studies in mental health counseling and clinical psychology at New York University, State University of New York, and Cornell University, respectively.

During her master’s studies, she provided psychodynamic-oriented psychotherapy services at the Psychological Counseling Center of the City University of New York. During her doctoral studies, she conducted individual, couples, and group psychotherapies primarily using psychodynamic psychotherapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy models at various university counseling centers, an eating disorder clinic, and a cancer hospital for four years.

She successfully completed her clinical psychology internship accredited by the American Psychological Association at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Counseling Center, providing full-time psychotherapy and supervision services for a year, and was accepted into the Clinical Psychology Post-Doctoral Program at Cornell University.

During her post-doctoral studies, she worked as a full-time Clinical Psychologist for a year, specializing particularly in group psychotherapies and grief and bereavement therapies. She passed the licensure exam, which grants the right to independently diagnose, treat, conduct psychological assessments, provide consultations, and supervision in the United States, earning the title of licensed clinical psychologist.

Most recently, she worked as a full-time licensed clinical psychologist at Dartmouth College Counseling Center and also provided psychotherapy services to expatriate clients in her private practice. She is currently serving as a visiting faculty member in the Psychology department at Boğaziçi University.
