Ayşe Akan

Dr. Akan graduated with a dual bachelor's degree in History and Psychology. After working for two years as an assistant specialist at the Ministry of Family and Social Policies, she completed her master's degree in Mental Health Studies at King’s College London (Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience). Following this, she earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (D Clin Psych) from the University of Essex.
During her doctoral studies, Dr. Akan worked as a trainee clinical psychologist in various clinical populations within clinics and hospitals affiliated with the NHS (National Health Service) in the UK. She employed various psychotherapy models, primarily cognitive-behavioral and systemic/family therapies. She completed her specialist internship at Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, working with children, adolescents, and adults.
After completing her doctorate, Dr. Akan served as a clinical psychologist at North East London NHS Foundation Trust for two and a half years. During this time, she provided therapy and psychoeducation to clients and their families, offered clinical and administrative supervision and consultation to other staff, including doctoral students, and led and participated in research projects.
Dr. Akan returned to Turkey in April 2023 and has been serving as the head of BÜREM since September 2023.
